Yep, I've been lazy. I went on my huge bucket list vacation and didn't share it here. We had the six of us, siblings and spouses, 10 years after our last trip together in Yellowstone.

We flew to Salt Lake, UT and stopped to see what was left of the Great Salt Lake. I touched, and smelled the water...no tasting, uh maybe a little.

Onward to Idaho, our first exploration was Craters of the Moon NM. Being a volcano nut, I climbed a few mounds to see what was at the top, then was able to climb this and go inside. My SIL's sat out the volcanic cone.

Inside there was not much to see. It WAS dark and they had chain link fencing to keep people from falling in. I've no clue how deep the hole was, but I can say I went into a cinder cone.

We viewed Shoshone Falls. I bet it's impressive in the spring with flowing water. My choice of travel time always leaves me with stark rocks at waterfalls. No problem, it was beautiful.

Proof of spouse.

We traveled the area around Twin Falls and found Balanced Rock. Yeah, I climbed up to that, too!

There were some neat, out of the way places in parks.

We took a boat tour on the Snake River to Pillar Falls. Again, low water but now I could climb all over the rocks.

We drove through Idaho and back country Oregon to our next destination. The scenery was beautiful and so desolate. Next stop...Crater Lake, number one on my list.

Back in early 2000-somthing, my intent was to hike down the crater to the lake and take the boat ride. Between the cardiac issues and my hip, I was content to be a senior tourist. I did go out at night and take starry pictures. Alas, they are still in my camera waiting to be downloaded.

We continued the drive to the Oregon coast and stayed in Bandon. We could see Face Rock from our rental.

I got a good sunset picture in a tidal pool.

Another proof of wonderful life!

  1. Awesome adventures, as always. I knew you were having adventures, great to see the photographic evidence! Love that last photo of you and you sweetie with the lake as backdrop! And I can just "see" you climbing all those formations! Reminds me of a certain jaunt around by the Charles River? The terrain may be different, but the spirit of adventure is the same!

  2. OMG! Isn’t Crater Lake gorgeous. Been to Salt Lake, too. Ummm . . . the brine flies were not appealing in the least.

    Awwwww, love the last picture!

Sounds like a wonderful trip! So much to see in this country.

    Thanks for sharing your trip.
