My last Blogger blog. This has been a temporary adventure to keep in touch with the few peeps I enjoyed "relationships" with on Spark People. With the advent of SP part two, I can't see duplicating my effort. So here goes. I'm starting week 19 of medicated weight loss and am pleased with the results. My weigh-in this week is the same, 21.5 down. None of my dress clothes fit. Everything has been donated. Yoga pants are very forgiving as are t-shirts. What I've learned to date:  Good food is better than crappy food. Think boxed, take out, delivery, drive through, and ready to eat frozen meals.  I don't need "something". I need healthy things and had better keep them handy. I used to open the cabinet and stare inside, trying to find what I want. Now I decide what I want at the grocery and have it ready.  My meals are waaay smaller than previously prepared.  Old habits are triggered even if the "food noise" is reduced. I prepare my DH's fo...
21.5 pounds down since April 12th. I'm still playing around with my meals and notice I am missing things like mass quantities of cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and fresh salads. I used to make a meal of chicken and broccoli or a big salad with fish. I'm ditching salads for the moment due to current news. I'm relying on my garden's beets, zucchini and eggplant. While the beets simply get roasted and eaten, I've tended to make recipes requiring chick peas or black beans and ancient grains with my veggies. I'm a Jersey girl, and there's a dish on the counter of home-grown cherry tomatoes. I eat those like grapes. My omelets are full of tomatoes. Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are regulars in my meals. Both get dressed up with fruit or veggies depending on my mood. I've switched to frozen sliced fruits as I don't go through the fresh so fast. However, if I find a fresh peach that SMELLS like a peach, it's mine. So many are picked early and...
I've been on this journey for 18 weeks.  Perhaps about 6 weeks in on Foundao, a two or three week pause for recovery from dehydration issues after 9 on Zepbound. Four months and I've lost 19 pounds. What works:  A caring doctor. She tried two of the drugs herself and was honest about the side effects. They interfered with her life (new mom, fledgling career) so she'd stopped her own trial. As a non-working person, she felt I could handle things that came up. I didn't think sleep apnea could be something good, but it allowed my insurance to approve the drugs. Having a spouse who supports your journey and notices progress. Changing my mind about what food is for. What doesn't work:  Uh, I've got nothin'. Now for some NSVs. I am wearing a T-shirt I bought in Ireland in 2009. I've never been able to wear it. I cleaned out my closet, admittedly a lot of old work clothes and sweatpants, and donated three bags to the donation box. I can pull off my jeans and j...
My weight is steady; neither a loss or gain, still at 18 and holding. I feel in control of my eating and have changed some of the ideas about what is right for me. Dare I say I am seeing meals as function over reward? Perhaps, and I don't think that's a bad thing. I had a discussion with my traveling partner SIL who is doing the WW points thing, and we compared notes about our meals and ideas. She and I have been "plate watching" each other for years in an invisible competition. Last night in our NJ diner dinning, I watched her do what I would have done six months ago; take DH's fruit bowl, eat two thirds of the fish tacos to take the rest home, pick at the sides.  I didn't.  My grilled Rueben was not so grilled as it was laid on the griddle to cook to dryness, without butter. It was lacking the usual mega meat-covered-dripping-cheese fullness expected on TV shows about NJ diners The Russian dressing was in a side cup and sparingly used. In another life I wou...
