Back to being me. I'm not sure I'm completely well again but, "I ain't got time for that!"
I've realized that along with the ceiling repairs, some seam cracks in the drywall and painting, I had to finish repairing the floor! Originally our heating went through ducts in the floor. It was great as the floor was always warm in the winter. Over time I found water filling those ducts and realized they were asbestos-lines pipes (yikes), we opted for new heating with overhead ducting. Now we have cold floors, but that's what the carpeting is for!
I sealed each duct with foam and filled the vents with cement when we carpeted the smaller rooms. The holdout was this massive carpet. I had seven vents left to fill and level to the floor. That's about 130 pounds of dry cement, mixed by hand in in a bucket, carried into the house and shoveled into the holes with a garden trowel. Huh, I forgot about the water weight. Maybe another 10 pounds?
The entryway is tiled and a vent split two tiles. Lucky me, I can tile and have those spares. Yesterday I sat on the floor or a stool, kneeled, and cursed for two hours while I chiseled up the offending tiles. The lady we hired who put these down did a great job, they weren't going easily. But, they never met me! The tiles are up, all the old grout and mortar removed. I need one cut to fit and I'll put them in place.
Two down, 5 to go.
Yep, Overworkedjanet is back!
Wow! BUSY lady and I admire your repair capabilities! Nice.
ReplyDeleteHope that you have a great summer! Really enjoying the spring weather now that it's warmed up. Can't believe we're already heading into June! BUT time stands still for no one, right!

You are so fortunate to be able to do such good work. I have minimal talent in that regard. I will have to send you a picture of our latest project when it is done.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your "day rate"? Sigh... you'd shake your head over all the things I don't have done at my house, and your determination and grit remind me of my own mom, who never let anything stop her! She redid any number of spaces as DIY projects while she sent dad and whatever kids were at home off on camping trips.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I'm barely surviving this. I think it's the don't-you-tell-me-I-can't syndrome. I have always felt, with some limitations, that I can do anything I put my mind to, and I have. Plumbing, electrical, paint, woodwork are just a bit. I repaired my old 3 button mouse by removing the dead switch and soldering/replacing it with the middle one I rarely used. Refrigerator repair. Car repairs. I'm only limited by heavy or huge objects!
DeleteIn younger years I did some things: repaired a dryer, a dehumidifier, rewired a lamp, a light switch... some minor plumbing (toilet kits). Then I got lazy! You are an adventurer!
