I thought you could use a bit of distraction right now. I know I could.
Our next stop on our road trip was the National Corvette Museum. I'm more of a Ford woman, myself, although I'd driven a 'vette "back in the day."
This odd view is all you'll see now from the original cave collapse that swallowed up 8 fancy cars in 2014. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/02/12/corvette-museum-sinkhole/5417171/
After a few years of display, they found the hole took up too much real estate and covered it over, leaving an access for annual investigation of the cave system underground. In front of my feet is a view of the yellow ladder and the 15 foot climb below.
There were plenty of cool cars including this.
There was the rather infamous car Michael Keaton used in the original Batman, and some cute guy.
Our next stop was Nashville. I had no real plans there except to sit in at least one 'honky-tonk' and listen to a band. We did, the band was great and surprisingly the food was good, too! We opted to use the hop-on hop-off trolley and visit a few things. I enjoyed the Belmont mansion,
especially the scary stairs at the top. Look, don't tread.
Since my honey can't walk to tour a city or take stairs, it wasn't the best place for us to be. He sat in the gift shop at the mansion and chatted with a young lady who turned out to be from...New Jersey!
From there we drove to upper Mississippi in anticipation of doing some National Park stuff. Alas, DH became ill and I opted to drive on part of the Naches-Trace Parkway which according to the NPS roughly follows the trails used by Native Americans and early settlers. It was a lovely drive. We stopped in a seriously hole-in-the-wall place called JJ's Café. I had a BLT that was like mom used to make; toaster toasted white bread and all the rest slapped on a plate, not cut. It cost me about $3 and made my day. My in-laws posed to prove we were in Mississippi.
There's nothing like a trip to see rockets to make a boy feel better, and The U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama perked my man right up! He's pretending he's at the space station window.
Just amazing how someone can be totally knocked down one day and a little boy the next. Such is his disability. He struggled in this space capsule but got out on his own.
I can always use some distraction. Especially from you!
ReplyDeleteAs a reformed gearhead I have loved all kinds of nice cars. My very first car was a 1965 candy apple red fastback Mustang. I don't like read cars actually but how many 16 year olds get one of these? My second was a Chevelle. My third a GTO. After that I was married to a gearhead so more nice vehicles happened including a couple of Chevys - a Camaro and a Corvette. A Pinto also happened as my mom wanted me to have a dependable. gas friendly car to drive long distances to college. Boy was she deranged. Worse piece of crap I ever owned. When I graduated from college my taste had changed and I bought my new 1975 MGB. I loved that car more than any of them and still have it in the old garage - it's a mess. I am a Ford woman now, I guess. We have an FX4. I remember the cave collapse. It was a sickening nightmare. Unreal. Loved the picture of both Batmen.
I enjoy visiting old mansions. I am not so sure about the stairs though. LOL
Love diners and BLTs. minus the tomato and mayo. Just give me the bacon, lettuce, and some mustard. Thank you.
Love the Space Program pictures. Your hubby looks 30 years younger in them. Benny would love it too. I only took him to Florida once and he is not a traveler so we didn't stop in Huntsville.
Loved the pictures! A good time was had by all.
I'm glad you liked this! Mustard on a BLT?, Huh. I had a salmon BLT in Nashville. It was awesome.
DeleteI love mustard. Not a huge fan of mayo - only a little in things like tuna salad, chicken salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, etc. It is well known that people in my area prefer Miracle Whip to Mayo and refer to it as mayo. Same ingredients but Miracle Whip adds sugar, mustard and some spices. I am not thrilled with either. Not really into sauces and dips much. Don't like sour cream, ranch dressing, quac, shrimp cocktail sauce, horseradish sauce, fish sauce, hot sauce, buttermilk sauces, mayonnaise based salad dressings, blue cheese sauces, Caesar sauces, thousand island/special sauce, cucumber sauce, mushroom sauce, Green Goddess, Hollandaise sauce, garlic sauces, green sauces. I do like some tartar sauces like McDonald's. Can eat some tomato sauces. Salmon is okay. I prefer salmon cakes. I may qualify as your pickiest friend! LOL.
DeleteWhat lovely photos. Your DH really does look like a kid in a candy shop in that space capsule.
ReplyDeletehugs and thanks for sharing!

Oh, the little boy cam out in both my honey and his brother. Competitions as to who could do more cool things.
DeleteI am familiar with those kinds of disabilities! One day push it, the next day pay for it. Once paid, free to push again?
ReplyDeleteLoved the description of the BLT... that's how my mom made 'em, too.
I only rode in a 'vette once, but hey, they are art as much as vehicle. Fascinating the "cave" access to the sinkhole.
Thanks for the distraction, you were right, it was timely!
You're welcome. There's a bunch more. We crammed a lot into 17 days.
ReplyDeleteWhat great fun! ~Alicia363 ❤️ ‘some cute guy’ lol 😂
